I was surprised to find out that many people actually do not enjoy hajj, despite the life savings they have spent to get here. They come back disappointed and wish that they were given better advice before going.

The reason why is that hajj can be very physically taxing, and if you are not prepared, you can easily be disappointed, or get sick, and struggle through the rituals, without really feeling it spiritually.
This is of utmost importance if you want to have an enjoyable hajj. Take your time in deciding and do extensive research. Our imam was amazing, ma sha Allah. We had daily sessions preparing us for the next day. He thoroughly explained the spiritual aspects behind the rituals, he answered all the daily questions we had, and explained the history behind what were doing too. He had a great grasp of our American context as well and we also discussed what we can do after hajj in our communities as well. He kept us positive when things got tough, and this is vital.
The other thing is to be proactive in your health before you go. Walk every day for months ahead of time. Also, bring lots of medication, all kinds of medication for your throat, cough, fever, headache, diarrhea, etc. And take antibiotics at the first sign of sickness, even if you never take medicine usually. You can be proactive by building your immune system with Vitamin C, and using a surgical mask while you are in hajj, if you are up to that. Some people have sworn by apple cider vinegar, honey, black seed oil and the like while there. Wash your hands constantly and only drink bottled water or Zam Zam water.
When you go for umrah, you are in high spirits; you want to cherish every worshiping moment and you want to embrace your Muslim brothers and sisters. Except, that life is not that ideal. People come from all ends of the earth with different cultural customs, social statuses and income levels.
That became my golden rule for surviving umrah. I became more relaxed knowing that this will just happen so get over itand focus on more important things like why you are there in the first place. Al hamdu lillah!
I knew then that Allah must have been saving me to go at a better time. And it did happen for me, with my hubby years later, when I was ready. Allah is All-Wise! It was then that I realized that going for umrah or hajj, with that many people from all different lands and cultures speaking different languages, was a blessing to go with my husband who was there leading me and taking care of me and the details the entire time. It made all the difference!
Going to cities in Saudi for hajj is similar to this. You will first land in one of the airports in Jeddah or Madina and then drive to the Makkah, which is the main destination. From there, you will perform hajj by visiting the smaller towns.
Depending on your package, you will either fly in to Jeddah and drive directly to Makkah some days before the beginning of hajj or you will fly into Madinah and stay there a few days before hajj starts. From there, everyone will start hajj in Makkah, then Mina, Arafat, Muzdalifah and back to Mina and Makkah. You will camp and sleep in Mina most of the time and in Muzdalifah for one night.
Even though you may be in Saudi Arabia for 13-21 days, the actual hajj consists of five days only (in Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah). You will be enjoying the sites in Makkah and Madinah for the rest of the days. 2ff7e9595c
